More Than 30 Puhua Extracurricular Activities in Puhua Activity Village to Develop Student Potential
Banyumas—Relevant education in the 21st century not only teaches students to understand lessons in the classroom. Children also need to learn to know themselves, collaborate, manage challenges, be brave to try, and discover interests that can become their strengths in the future. Therefore, Puhua School presents Puhua Activity Village (PAV) as a co-curricular program that is integrated with the students' learning journey.
What is PAV?
PAV has been designed since the school was established 20 years ago as a learning space that provides opportunities for Puhua students to grow through real experiences, as they practice together, create works, solve problems, lead teams, face defeats, celebrate progress, and learn to try again.
This approach aligns with the framework of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which emphasizes the importance of student agency in students' ability to set goals, reflect on experiences, and act responsibly. The OECD also notes that clubs, sports, and co-curricular activities play a significant role in the holistic development of individuals, including a sense of autonomy, competence, and belonging.
Every child has different interests, curiosities, and ways of growing. Some find confidence when performing in dance, some learn discipline through taekwondo, some develop strategies through team sports, and others find joy in creating art or deepening their academic fields.
Puhua offers more than 30 PAV options grouped into five areas: Academic, Sports, Culture, Social Development, and Art & Craft-Related. PAV is available through three development pathways. Mandatory PAV includes Scout activities for students in grades 4, 5, 7, and 10 as a space for building discipline, independence, leadership, and social awareness. Achievement PAV provides more targeted guidance for students preparing to participate in competitions, tournaments, and events outside of school. Meanwhile, Regular PAV offers the freedom to choose interests, ranging from K-pop Dance, Soccer, Taekwondo, Swimming, to various other activities.
Each activity is accompanied by experienced teachers/trainers who are competent in their fields. PAV is conducted after school hours, once a week for approximately one hour. From the consistent training process, students learn that skills do not develop instantly. They understand the values of discipline, time management, perseverance, teamwork, communication, the courage to perform, and the ability to accept feedback.
PAV in Modern Education Needs
This is the correlation between PAV and the needs of modern education. The future workplace and social life require analytical thinking skills, creativity, resilience, flexibility, leadership, and positive social influence. These various skills develop more strongly when students not only receive material but also face real challenges and learn alongside others. The World Economic Forum's analysis places analytical thinking, resilience/flexibility, as well as leadership and social influence as core skills sought by the job market.
Puhua wants every student to find a space to say, “This is something I love, and I want to grow.” Because every child deserves the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.
