Puhua Primary School Celebrates the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence with the Spirit of Togetherness Among Students and Parents
Banyumas—In the spirit of commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Puhua Primary School invites students to interpret independence through joy, togetherness, and sportsmanship. Carrying the theme “Free in Spirit, United in Diversity 激情铸就自由，多元凝聚团结”, this celebration becomes a meaningful learning space for students to understand that unity grows when everyone is willing to work together, appreciate differences, and share happiness.
The activity began with a ceremony commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia with Secondary School students. In a solemn atmosphere, students were invited to honor the national symbols, remember the struggles of the predecessors, and reinforce their pride in being part of Indonesia. The ceremony serves as an important practice to cultivate discipline, respect, love for the homeland, and the awareness that independence needs to be filled with positive contributions in daily life.
After the ceremony, the spirit of celebration continued through competitions designed according to the age and developmental stage of the students. Grades 1–2 participated in the Ping Pong Ball Relay and Bolt Assembly, which sharpened their motor coordination, precision, patience, and ability to follow rules. Students in grades 3–4 faced the challenges of the Sarong Relay and the Softball Relay, which fostered teamwork, communication, and the ability to devise simple strategies together. Meanwhile, students in grades 5–6 participated in the Pencil Insertion Using a String competition as well as the Balloon and Cup Relay.
This activity trains focus, self-control, perseverance, and responsibility towards each person's role. Each game presents different challenges, but carries the same message: success is not only determined by speed or victory, but by the willingness to strive, collaborate, adhere to the rules, and continue to respect friends.
For Puhua, the activities on August 17 are not just competitions to find a winner. Each game serves as a medium for character education that is alive. Students learn to accept results with an open heart, encourage friends who are struggling, manage feelings of disappointment, and celebrate success without belittling others. This is the meaning of sportsmanship that they want to instill: the courage to compete honestly while maintaining brotherhood.
The excitement is further enhanced by the involvement of parents in the Cardboard Shake and Tug of War competitions. The presence of parents not only adds to the fun but also strengthens the partnership between families and schools. When children see their parents, teachers, and friends engaged in a positive atmosphere, they learn that togetherness, support, and cooperation are important values in life.
